Fonseka will be indicted under civil law

General Sarath Fonseka will be indicted under the civil law in Sri Lanka within the next two weeks, Export Development and International Trade Cabinet Minister Professor G.L Peiris said at a media briefing held at the Department of Government Information yesterday.

According to the Minister charges will be framed against General Fonseka under the penal code and Exchange Control Act for conspiracy to commit a fraud and for aiding and abetting HiCorp in a fraudulent transaction which caused serious loss to the country.

This will be the main charge. Creating disaffection in the army and harbouring army deserters will be the other charges under which he will be tried, Professor Peiris said.

He said charges will also be pressed against Fonseka in respect of the excessive foreign currency deposited in bank vaults which is being investigated by the Criminal Investigation Department.
