More power to SPC

The Southern Provincial Council Power and Energy Ministry will augment the electricity supply in the region. Accordingly the proposed power projects will cover Galle, Matara and Hambantota districts in the South.

Commencement of fresh rural power projects, further extensions of already existing power lines and establishment of transformers with high voltage of electric supply are included in these augmentation activities, a senior official of the Southern Provincial Power and Energy Ministry said.

The financial allocations of the Southern Provincial Council are utilized for this.

On the instructions of the Southern Provincial Council Chief Minister Shan Wijayalal de Silva all these power improvement activities will get underway very soon. All the projects are anticipated to be consummated prior to turn of the year, a senior spokesman attached to SPC Power and Energy Ministry told the Daily News..
