Serious back injury fears for Scotland wing Evans

Scotland wing Thom Evans is feared to have suffered a serious back injury in the 31-24 Six Nations defeat by Wales on Saturday, coach Andy Robinson said.

Evans, 24, was carried from the Millennium Stadium pitch on a stretcher following lengthy treatment in the first half.

"He is currently in hospital with a back injury and we think it is very serious," Robinson told a news conference.

"It is a big concern at the moment.

Thom's parents are with him.

I can't say any more at the moments because with injuries like this you have to wait and see." Thom's older brother Max Evans scored Scotland's second try.

Robinson said fullback Chris Paterson, who went off injured during his 100th international appearance, was also being checked over in hospital for an abdominal injury.
