Heroin haul at Airport: Customs Assistant Superintendent Wipul Mahendra arrested two Pakistani nationals with 83 packets of heroin weighing 720 grams and worth Rs. 3.4 million hidden in their abdomen and rectum. Investigations are being carried out under the supervision of Customs Director of Narcotics and Baggage S.D.S. PUCSL to guarantee safe electricity

The Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) has launched an inspection program to improve the safety of internal electrical installations within Government owned school buildings in the country to educate the school community and the public about safe electrical installations in buildings, its Chairman Dr. Jayatissa de Costa said.

Batticaloa gets Rs 700 m bridge across Valaichchenai lagoon

Work on the new Oddamavadi bridge across the Valaichchenai lagoon is nearing completion and will be opened to the public this year. A Highways and Road Development Ministry spokesman said public transport in the Batticaloa district would be hassle free because of this bridge being constructed at a cost of Rs 700 million. The World Bank and the Spanish Government have funded the project.
