Peterites clinch Schools Under-20 Rugby Sevens Title

St. Peter's College, Colombo clinched the Cup Championship by beating
St. Joseph's College, Colombo by 41 points (three goals, four tries) to
5 (one try) in the final of the Western Province Inter-school Under-20
Seven-a-Side Rugby Championship worked off at Royal College Sports
Complex yesterday which was conducted by Western Province Schools Rugby
Football Association.
At half time Peterites led 24-0.
St. Peter's College scored tries through centre Danushka Ranjan
(two), winger Sandun Herath (two), prop Anisha Fernando (one), fly half
Keith Gurusinghe (one) and hooker Lakith Perera (one) of which three
were converted by scrum half Rizwan Meedin. The solitary try for St.
Joseph's was scored by Romello Perera.
St. Peter's beat Wesley College 33-0 while St. Joseph's overcame
Science College 10-5 in the semi-finals.
Plate Championship was won by Science College, Mt. Lavinia who beat
Wesley College, Colombo by 17-15 in the final.
Bowl Championship was bagged by Ananda College, Colombo which routed
Prince of Wales College, Moratuwa by 33-12 in the final.
Nalanda College, Colombo clinched the Shield Championship by beating
Panadura Royal College by 12-nil in the final.
St. John's College, Nugegoda won the Saucer Championship in the
tournament by overcoming D.S. Senanayake College, Colombo by 17-12 in
the final. |
