Minister Gunewardena honoured

Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunewardena was presented with the 'Leadership in Pro-Poor Policy Implementation Award' at a ceremony held recently in Mumbai, India.

This title was awarded to the Minister by a group of associations represented by Slum Dwellers International (SDI), National Slum Dwellers Federation (NSDF) and Mahila Milem Organization in appreciation of the Minister's very successful program of 'Nagarika Dilindu Niwasa Arunodaya' launched for the benefit of low income group of people.

This project was launched by the Minister with a fund created by a very nominal charge of one rupee levied from new constructions meant for urban dwellers under the concept of 'one house for each family' under Mahinda Chintana.
