Host of events to mark German Tech’s 50th anniversary

The Ceylon-German Technical Training Institute (CGTTI) will celebrate
its 50th anniversary on a grand scale with a festival and exhibition at
its headquarters in Katubedda, Moratuwa from February 15 to 17.

The celebrations and the exhibition will be ceremonially opened by
President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the invitation of Transport Minister
Dullas Alahapperuma.
CGTTI’s Director and the Principal Gamini Manchanayake said the
exhibition will be conducted from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. three days. In
addition, a musical extravaganzas too have been organized for the three
days from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.
He said a seminar on latest trends in automotive repairs by Messer
Car-O-Liner will be held on February 16 at 3 p.m.
Meanwhile, awards will be presented to employees to mark their 25
years with CGTTI. Former German staff who had worked in the institution
will also be offered awards for their contribution. “There is a big
demand from the school leavers for our full time and part time courses
and we receive around 5,000 applications for these courses annually,”
the Chairman said. The CGTTI intakes nearly 350 students for its full
time training course annually. The intake consist 10 percent of Tamil
students.
Meanwhile, the CGTTI provides annual training for nearly 2,500
students for those who registered for part-time courses.
He said around 10,000 youth have already been given the best
automotive training since the Institution was setup in 1960. They have
already found employment here and abroad. |
