Trial meet to pick boxers for Commonwealth C’ships
The trial meet to select boxers for the 5th Commonwealth Boxing
Championships in New Delhi, India will be worked off on February 16, 17
and 18 at the Royal College Boxing Hall commencing from 5.00 pm each
day.
This meet is open to any male boxer who has won a Gold, Silver or
Bronze medal at an ABA major meet or Gold/Silver medal at the Stubbs
shield and Gold Medal at the Junior Nationals Championships during 2006
to 2009.
Those Boxers who are between 17 and 34 years or born between 1993 and
1976 are allowed to compete at this meets. No Fresher will be allowed to
take part in this meet. The meet will be conducted according to the AIBA
rules 2008.
The preliminary weigh-in preceded by the medical examination will be
held on the 16th of February between 8.00 am to 10.00 am at the
Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. The same process will take place on the 17th
and 18th of February between 8.00 am to 9.00 am at the same venue.
The draw will commence after the completion of weigh-in on the first
day. Clubs can enter any number of boxers as per the qualification laid
above. Medical certificate obtained from a Western qualified doctor
should be produced at the weight-in.
The selected boxers will be nominated to represent Sri Lanka at the
5th Commonwealth Boxing Championships 2010 in India. The selected boxers
are required to report to the National Residential Boxing Pool at
Slimline (Pvt) Ltd on February 21 in order to undergo special training
session under the Cuban Coach.
