Tea Shakthi Fund (TSF) shareholders received dividends worth Rs. 350
million last Sunday.
Plantation Industries Minister D.M. Jayaratne handed over the
dividends of some shareholders to mark the payment of dividends at the
Ministry stall at the Deyata Kirula exhibition in Pallekele , Kandy.
This was the third batch who received dividends under the directions
of the Mahinda Chinthana concept aimed to uplift the income level of tea
smallholders in the plantation sector.
According to Ministry sources, over 94,000 tea smallholders in the
membership of TSF will benefit through the dividends.
TSF is an organization which is financed and owned by the tea
smallholders with the objective of harnessing the full potential of a
large community of enterprising small tea cultivators. TSF operates
within a network of 1,200 strong tea holders’ societies, covering a tea
growing population of 1.5 million, spanning over 88,000 hectares of tea
plantation.
