President invites them. TNA Parliamentarian K. Thurairetnasingham said
that the President had invited them in the past and discussed problems.
He added that they are prepared to have talks with the President on the
immediate needs and long-term political problems. Child Probation
Authority (CPA) Chairman Jagath Wellawatta said that all LTTE child
soldiers who surrendered to the Security Forces would be freed within
three months.
The rehabilitation of these youngsters aged between 13 and 18 is
nearing completion and out of the 514 child soldiers 120 had already
been handed over to their parents. According to the court order the LTTE
child soldiers who surrendered from May 22 last year have been
rehabilitated. He also said that 273 of them are presently studying at
Hindu College Ratmalana.
All the detainees would be freed by May and UNICEF is helping in the
rehabilitation efforts.
Agricultural activities are at a standstill as the drought hits the
Trincomalee area. Agricultural crops have been affected in Kantalai,
Kinniya, Mutur, Pulmoddai, Mullipottana and Horowpothana. Farmers in
Vaddakachchi, Ariyapura, Jayanthipura and several other areas are badly
affected.
India's Thermal Power Corporation would commence the construction of
the power station at Sambur at the end of the month. Once the proposal
is approved by the Attorney General's Department the CEB and the Indian
