Leading Drivers and Riders in action

Eliyakanda Hill Climb:

The Eliyakanda Hill Climb (Browns Hill Climb) one of the best events organized by the Southern Motor Sports Club the leading Motor Sports Club in the Southern Province will open their 2010 calendar with this event tomorrow commencing at 8.30 a.m. This year's climb will see country's leading racing drivers and 12 top notch riders in action.

In the previous years the event attracted a higher number of riders and it is sorry state to see many reputed riders skip this well-organized meet. On the other hand the drivers have taken this event seriously and have entered the fray giving the organizers a great boost. According to an official of the Club last year's winner Dinesh Deheragoda will be seen in action trying to retain the title or a further period driving his Mitsubishi Evolution. In all seven drivers behind the wheels Super Cars category will be in action on this day to give the reigning champion a good run. The drivers driving Super cars are Aravinda Premadasa, Janaka Dias, Rizvi Farook, Riyaz Farook and Ashan Silva.

The up and coming young driver Pasindu Peiris who was expected to pose a big challenge to these top drivers in Super cars will not be at the starters point to take orders as he is out of the country competing in a race meet in India. Upulwan Serasinghe the Ford Laser National champion for the last five years will compete on this day to maintain his supremacy in this class against the drivers of the calibre of Nishan Weerasuriya, Susantha Gunewardene and a host of others driving in this Class.

A keen contest can be expected in the Motor Cycle events too as many leading riders are vying for supremacy in this year's first Hill Climb which has been a huge success for the riders getting prepared for the forthcoming Hill Climbs that are due to be conducted during the April festive season in Nuwara Eliya.

Indika Gurusinghe, a former champion in many classes and leading Super Motard rider at present will be seen in action on this day. Tuan Ossen, Maduranga Caldera and Policeman M.C.S. Perera will battle along with Indika to erase the existing record on this course. All in all a top class event is expected on Sunday with organizers making every effort to make it a grand success.
