Maris Stella in superb recovery

Maris Stella College, Negombo did well to recover from 79 for 5 to
total 260 on the first day of their schools Under 19 Cricket Tournament
match against Trinity College which began at the Asgiriya Stadium in
Kandy yesterday. The match will be continued today at 9.30 a.m.
Sanjaya Silva who came at the fall of the first wicket played the
role of sheet anchor and batted doggedly to score 60 facing 203 balls
and hitting just 2 fours.
At lunch Maris Stella College was struggling at 83 for 5 before
Sanjaya Silva and Dasun Shanka (44) resurrected the innings with a sixth
wicket stand of 59. Dasun Shanaka was very aggressive when compared to
his partner Sanjaya Silva.
His 44 run knock lasted only 29 balls and he hit 3 sixes and 5 fours
with 38 of the runs coming in boundaries.
Sanjaya Silva was next partnered by Prasansaga Jayamanne (59) and
this pair put on 96 for the seventh wicket to hoist the 200 of the
innings Prasansaga Jayamanne hit 8 fours and 1 six in his 80 ball nock.
But there was miner collapse as the total slumped from 234 for 6 to 239
for 9.
Medium pacer Chinthaka Gokula returned his career best figures of 7
for 60. Maris Stella College 260 all out in 84.5 overs (Vishwa Kanchuka
11, Sanjaya Silva 60, Satbira Dileepa 16, Dasun Shanka 44, Prasansaga
Jayamanne 59, Yasith Dilshan not out 16, Chinthaka Gokula 7 for 60,
Suresh Wickrema 2 for 60, Aamil Anas 1 for 80.
Trinity College 12 for no loss in 6 overs. |
