Josephians pile up 300 for 8

Two splendid half centuries from Enrico Silva (57) and Jaan Jayasinghe (56) helped St. Joseph’s College pile up a formidable 300 for 8 in their first innings on the opening day of their 89th annual inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against St. Benedict’s College which commenced at Kotahena yesterday. The Joes then went on to complete a successful day as they reduced the Benedictines to 103 for 5 in reply.

St. Joseph’s: 300 for 8 decl (D. Perera 28, E. Silva 57, J. Jayasinghe 56, C. Kumara 23, V. Jayasinghe 30, R. Vidanarachchi 28, D. Dhambarage 25, D. Perera 2 for 56, E. Ratnayake 4 for 109).

St. Benedict’s: 103 for 5 (N. Fonseka 34, S. Sampath 20 n.o, C. Kumara 2 for 19).

Maneesha and Ramith put Royal on top

Left arm spinner Maneesha Tantrigoda returned career best figures of eight wickets for 32 and opener Ramith Rambukwella hit a sparkling century to put Royal College in the driving seat on the opening day of their annual inter school under 19 cricket tournament match against St. Peter’s College which commenced at Reid Avenue yesterday.

After bundling out the visitors for 155 runs, Royal went on to reach a commanding 232 for 2 with Rambukwella scoring 103 with five sixes and a dozen boundaries. He was also associated in a second wicket stand of 147 runs with Imal Liyanage who was unbeaten on 84 with nine boundaries.

St. Peter’s: 155 (S. Fernando 70, D. Perera 23, M. Thantrigoda 8 for 32, R. Rambukwella 2 for 32).

Royal: 232 for 2 (R. Rambukwella 103, I. Liyanage 84 n.o, M. Rajaratne 33 n.o).

Isipatana hit back

Left arm spinner Anushka Samaratunga captured six wickets for 55 as Isipatana College after been shot out for 96 runs came back strongly to dismiss their opponents St. Sebastian’s College Moratuwa for 107 runs in their first innings on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which commenced at the BRC ground in Havelock Park yesterday.

Isipatana: 96 (I. Rahim 20, A. Aponso 4 for 24, S. de Mel 4 for 31) and 60 for 2 (I. Rahim 32 n.o).

St. Sebastian’s: 107 (C. Fernando 32, A. Samaratunga 6 for 55, S. Sulochana 4 for 26).

Even exchanges

Exchanges were even as bowlers dominated the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match between Thurstan College and Mahinda College Galle which commenced at Stanley Wijesundera Mawatha yesterday.

Thurstan: 124 (S. Kamileen 43, K. Praboda 3 for 24, L. de Silva 2 for 13, N. Tharaka 2 for 31).

Mahinda: 85 for 8 (N. Tharaka 27, H. Kumuditha 19, S. Wijesinghe 4 for 12, S. Dias 2 for 18).

Kalutara struggling

Kalutara MV were struggling at 105 for 7 in reply to D. S. Senanayake’s first innings total of 198 runs on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which commenced at Wijerama Mawatha yesterday.

D.S. Senanayake: 198 (T. Silva 63, T. Sathrasinghe 28, S. Chamara 3 for 24, S. Pathirana 2 for 48, C. Wannipura 3 for 7).

Kalutara MV: 105 for 7 (I. Buddhika 46, S. Priyan 20, M. Gunasinghe 3 for 18).

Mahanama on top

Mahanama College were well placed at 98 for no loss in reply to S. Thomas’ first innings total of 171 runs on the opening day of their inter school under 19 cricket tournament match which commenced at the Moratuwa Stadium yesterday.

S. Thomas’: 171 (S. Peiris 61, L. Peiris 30, R. Welikannage 3 for 17, I. Kumara 4 for 43).

Mahanama: 98 for no loss (L. Weerakoon 56 n.o, H.Perera 40 n.o).
