Little Vihangi sees brighter future for Lanka

Under President's leadership:

Vihangi and her grand parents with President Rajapaksa

Remember Vihangi Rajapakse, the 'Little Angel' in the making of a Hans Christian Anderson, who was introduced to the public by the Daily News a couple of months back? Her visit to Sri Lanka left such a long-lasting impact on her that she finds her thoughts regularly returning to her homeland. The little girl had yet again voiced her emotions through a touching letter and sketch to her idol President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

London

No. 21 3 EE

Dear Uncle Mahinda,

Hope you can remember me. I am Vihangi who came to present my first book to you, 'Tales from an Angel' when I was in Sri Lanka last August.

I am writing this letter to wish you all the best for winning the election and became our president again. I really do not know what an election is. My parents and grandmother were very keen watching TV news and internet about Sri Lanka in the past few days. When I asked them what it is about they explained to me about the election and said that it was to select the president of any country.

I thought you are always our president. Please be our president forever because I know you are a very kind person. You love all the little children in Sri Lanka and you are always trying to protect our country.

I still remember how you treated me and the things you told me about my country. Like you, I love and respect my country a lot though I live in London.

The song which Vihangi dedicated
to the President

Last December I was in Sri Lanka for my uncle's wedding. I was a flower girl with my little sister Sandali. During my holiday in Sri Lanka I became a singer too.

I recorded two songs for my new CD. All the songs in my CD are about children. My favourite song is about Siripathula and Sigiriya.

In that song little children like me, prayed to Budu Sadu to protect King Kassapa and give strength, wisdom, kindness and courage to protect our country. When I think about that song I think it suits you.

Like that song I want Budu Sadu to protect you and give all his blessings to you to get strength, wisdom and courage to protect and give us a good future. I know you will always think about the future of little children like me.

I know in the olden days in Sri Lanka we had kings and queens like King Dutugemunu, King Kassapa and queen Viharamahadevi who loved our country and people. You are also like them. I am sure that you will always protect our country and our people.

I hope that Sri Lanka and the little children are very lucky to get you selected as our president for another few years. I am looking forward to present my first CD to you when I complete all the songs.

Then I will tell you who wrote all the songs and who helped me to became a singer as I'm still learning to write Sinhala words. I am going to ask my grandmother to write the Siripathula song for you.

May the triple Gem bless you and my country!

Lots of Love
