SME Foundation welcomes President's victory

The Sri Lanka Foundation for the Development of Small and Medium Industries welcomed the election of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

"We are extremely happy to welcome you for the second term of your office because it was under Mahinda Chintana that the SME sector got some recognition in its role as a Development Agent," Foundation President Vasantha Jayasinghe said.

"We strongly believe that the path of economic development in any developing country lay through a strong SME sector.

Japan and Korea had been clear examples in this direction. In Japan various national laws have been passed through the Parliament which debates every year on the role of the SME's in Japan.

The Parliament of Japan makes necessary changes to the rules and regulations of the country to meet the needs of the sector to face challenges of the changing economic environment," he said.

"We take this opportunity to express our unstinted support to your vision of driving Sri Lanka from a developing nation to that of a developed nation during your second term of office," Jayasinghe said.
