The year 2010 has dawned in the backdrop of a momentous year receding
behind us and Sri Lanka is on the road to lasting peace, brotherhood and
prosperity, said Attorney General President’s Counsel Mohan Peiris.
Addressing a ceremony held to felicitate Senior Lawyers who had
completed 50 years at the BAR, he said: “It behoves us to remind
ourselves of the times ahead and their demands on the changing horizons
of the country.”
The Sri Lanka Bar Association felicitated 17 Senior Lawyers who had
completed 50 years at the BAR at the Galadari Hotel recently.
The 17 Senior Lawyers who have completed 50 years at the BAR are
President’s Counsel Ananda Wijesekera, President’s Counsel R.I.
Obeyesekere, P.B. Herath, M. Rene Fernando, S. Murugasan, Kithsiri
Jayasinghe, I.D. Goonetilleke, E.M.P.N. Arthenayake, N.B.D.S. Wijesekera,
U.C.B. Ratnayake, V. Vanniasinkam, F.N. de Silva, N.H. Gunaratne, W.H.
Niriella, P.A.D. Samarasekera, R.D. Senanayake and K.P.J. de Silva. UNDP
National Coordinator Sharmeele Ressorl, UNDP Project Officers Charok
Samarasekera and Sunare Samsudeen represented the UNDP at the ceremony.
As the country embarks on reconstruction, rehabilitation and a new
era for the people, a corresponding review and reform in both legal and
judicial arenas become necessary to keep pace with the changing tides,
the Attorney General said.
Chief Justice Asoka de Silva, Supreme Court Judge Saleem Marsoof PC,
Several Senior and Junior Judicial Officers, Solicitor General Priyasad
Dep and several senior and junior members of the Official and Unofficial
Bar also participated at the ceremony. SM |
