UNPers attack journalist’s mother

A UNP supporter has been taken into custody by the Kadugannawa Police in connection with an assault on Wimala Maturata (66), Treasurer of the Yatinuwara SLFP Women’s Organisation in Kadugannawa town on the day of the Presidential Election.

Maturata who is the mother of Lake House Journalist Sanjaya Asela Maturata is receiving treatment at the Kadugannawa district hospital.

A group of UNP supporters including a UNP UC member are alleged to have been involved in the incident. The UNP UC member is reported to have fled the area after the incident and a UC driver has also been arrested in this connection.

Police investigations are continuing under the direction of HQI Chief Inspector Rohana Wanigasekera, Kadugannawa Police.
