Kanway Autodrome opens racing calendar for SLMCC

The Sri Lanka Motor Cycle Club championship 2010 will get off the mark this Sunday at the Kanway Autodrome at Mirigama. This will be the first event of the championship for the year 2010.

The club will conduct five events for the championship. This will also be the first time that an event of this nature is conducted on a tarmac for a championship. The winner of the championship will be decided on the points collected through the five events conducted during the year 2010.

The club also has made arrangement to conduct events for under 13 and 16 making history once again by giving the opportunity for young ones to ride on a tarmac.

According to an official, already fourteen competitors have confirmed their participation. The present champion in the under 16 category Shehan Adikari who won the SLARDAR title for the year 2009 will face stiff competition from Eron Gunewardene, Seshan Salanski and M. Manchanayake. With these youngsters engaged in a tough battle will definitely produce good racing on this day. Ramal Pathiratne, Shane Gunewardene, Udesh Wedisinghe and Indika Gurusinghe are expected to thrill the spectators during the event, the Super Motard 250-450 CC class.

There will also be five events for cars. Upulwan Serasinghe champion in the 12 Kg class will once again will battle to maintain his supremacy in this class. He will receive st

iff opposition from Prasanna Alwis and U.C. Perera. Meanwhile in the Mini class the debutant Lakmal Wijeratne is expected to pose a big challenge to experienced drivers of the calibre of Ajith Keerthi, Susantha Gunewardena and K. Balasingham.

It will be of high interest to see a veteran Formula Driver Rohan de Silva making a comback to the track driving in the Nissan March. S.A. Lakshika, the only woman driver to enter will drive along with two brothers S.A. Harsha and S.A. Duminda. These three are sure give the other drivers a stiff competition in their class.

Other experienced drivers expected to compete in the first race meet of the year in different classes are Dhammika Pieris, Dilan Silva, Ashan de Silva and Dinesh Senanayake.
