Kasun 109 helps Kandy XI to 252

A brilliant knock of 109 by all rounder Kasun Ekanayake helped Kandy district to total 252 all out on the opening day of their two day march against Afghanistan national team which began at the Pallekelle stadium yesterday.

Kasun Ekanayake who is essentially a bowler scored his maiden hundred. He cut, drove and pulled effortlessly and was an object lesson to the frontline batsmen who failed to come to terms with the leg spin of Samiullah Shinwari who took 5 for 74.

Kasun Ekanayake hit 3 sixers and 13 fours in his 97 ball knock. It was a day on which everything came right for him.

He was associated in two useful stands with Mohamed Feshal and Indika Tillekawardena which helped Kandy District to end the day with respect.

Kandy District XI 252 (Kasun Ekanayake 109, Indika Tillekawardena 46, Mohamed Feshal 29, Samiullah Shinwari 5 for 74).

Afghanistan 27 for no loss.
