JVP-UNP trying to disrupt polls - SB

The JVP-UNP unholy alliance is making an effort to disrupt the first Presidential election to be held in the peacetime in country by resorting to violence.

The combine had clearly understood that President Mahinda Rajapaksa will gain a resounding victory and are trying to mar it by violence, Alliance Polls Campaign spokesman S.B. Dissanayake said in a press release yesterday.

The latest example of their violent activities was witnessed at Kaduruwela, Polonnaruwa when they unleashed violence on a peaceful propaganda event of the UPFA through JVP-UNP goons they had brought from outside that district.

Both parties had been responsible for violence in the past individually but now it has become a combination of violence, the release said.

"We condemn these acts of violence and urge the public to defeat the new JVP-UNP combination of violence," it said.
