Plans to re-merge North and East - Ven Ellawala Medhananda Thera

Sarath Fonseka and his colleagues have now formulated plans to re-merge the North and East and allow Western powers to plunder our country's resources once again said JHU leader Ven. Ellawala Medhananda Thera MP addressing an election rally in support of President Mahinda Rajapaksa held near the Kandy Central Market on Wednesday.

Ven Medhananda Thera said people could remember the day the LTTE attacked the Jaya Sri Mahabodhi premises and massacred Buddhist devotees. At that time the JHU said it was prepared to support a leader who could defeat the LTTE and restore peace. It was President Mahinda Rajapaksa who took up this challenge and accomplished it. The President who undertook this task after signing an agreement in front of the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy fulfilled it within four years. Ven. Medhananda Thera said President Mahinda Rajapaksa is a leader who kept his word notwithstanding outside pressures.

Now massive development schemes have been implemented in all parts of the country including the North and East when foreign banks crashed amidst a world economic downturn the President had strengthened local banks through sound financial management.

The JHU earlier requested Sarath Fonseka not to enter politics. Now he had sullied his name and integrity by failing to heed that advice. Fonseka was now riding on UNP and JVP promises. Fonseka's promise to grant a Rs. 10,000 salary increase to public servants would only be a day dream.

Ven. Uduwe Dhammaloka Thera, MP said the country was in dire need of the services of President Rajapaksa who had the blessings of the Maha Sangha led by the Malwatte and Asgiriya prelates.

The whole nation is indebted to the President who had liberated this country from cruel terrorism.

He would implore the JVP to get the TNA leader to deny having entered a secret agreement with Sarath Fonseka.

Ven. Udawatte Nanda Thera MP, Ven. Akmeemana Dayaratne Thera, MP. Sri Lanka Maha Sammatha Bhoomiputra Party's leader Dr. Harischandra Wijetunge, Ven. Dr. Delduwe Gnanasumana Thera, Vocalist Neela Wickramasinghe and several others also spoke.
