Artistes' responsibility to elect a sensitive leader - Geeta Kumarasinghe

Artistes, have a great responsibility to elect a sensitive leader who listens to the voice of the common people. What military leaders know is commanding. They don't care about the psycho-social needs of the people, veteran actress Geetha Kumarasingha said.

She was speaking at a meeting in support of President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Nugegoda recently. She stressed that the people doesn' t want a military leadership to govern the country since even the shadow of the terrorism has been totally eradicated and a peaceful environment created in the country. "Now we need a leader who can steer this nation to the summit of development. We can see this process has already started under the President's direct guidance.

This is the decisive moment in the history of this country all international forces have come together to harm the country with the considerable backing of unpatriotic elements. If we commit even one mistake it will affect us for all time. The role played by the President during the last four years was remarkable. He is really gift to this country, she added.

Kumarasingha emphasized that a cohesion is needed among all communities irrespective of their political affiliations. Unless we have unity in the country would not achieve bigger challenges. Macro level economic projects have started while offering maximum benefits to the Sri Lankan consumers. The world economic melt down did some damages to our economy, but due to the financial policies we adopted, we had only a slight impact from the recession, she said. The Opposition has fabricated lies to deceive the people. I phoned the Swarnawahini regarding an alleged purchase of shares by Gotabhaya Rajapaksa. They reiterated that is totally a misleading news spread by some parties with rested interests to topple the Government. Some countries especially Western countries don't like the President since he is not a puppet who dance to their tunes. They want someone whom they can handle according to their agendas. So this conspiracy is hatched by local and international elements who want to see anarchy in the country, she said.
