UNP submissive to foreign forces
The Government and the UPFA will never agree to a division of the
country whatever problems they may encounter, said Prime Minister
Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka addressing a meeting of parents and students at
Millewa Primary School Horana on January 13. The meeting followed the
distribution of a consignment of school equipment among students under a
program sponsored by the Gunajaya Sathuta Foundation.
The Prime Minister said the UNP had printed its policy statement
under a program funded by an NGO. This amply demonstrated that party's
subservience to foreign forces. The Prime Minister said: "Sri Lanka is a
sovereign and independent nation. The country had once again become a
united nation with the defeat of terrorism.
"The duty of everyone is therefore to protect the unity and
sovereignty of the country without any division. Betrayal of the country
for any personal gain is unpatriotic".
"Today's school equipment distribution is organised by NGOs. I am a
person who normally has a distrust against NGOs. We don't care much for
NGOs who work against the interests of our Motherland. The NGO which
funded today's distribution ceremony doesn't belong to that category. It
is an NGO which worked with a national interest," he said.
Principal S.C. Jayantha and several others also spoke. Provincial
Council member Vidura Wickramanayaka was also present.
