Israel does not want peace, says Abbas
Venezuela: Palestinian National Authority (PNA) President Mahmoud
Abbas accused Israel on Friday of undermining peace with the
construction of Jewish settlements and a wall to isolate the Palestinian
people.
According to the leader, that has been the Israeli Prime Minister
Bejamin Netanyahu’s stance since March, 2009, after his second
assumption of that post, being his previous term 13 years ago.
Israeli expansion continues, and so the construction of a wall that
just looking at it, one can understand its racist meaning, Abbas
asserted in this capital.
That Government distanced from the assumed commitment after the
Annapolis Conference, where we proposed returning to the borders
established on June 4, 1967, as solution to the conflict, he said.
One day after that date, Tel Aviv started the six-day war, by means
of which it conquered the West Bank, East Jerusalem, Egyptian Sinai
province and the Golan Heights in Syria.
We want to state clear out willingness to resume, unconditionally,
the peace talks, but committing to putting an end to the Israeli
expansionist activities, he said.
According to Abas, Netanyahu’s Government runs the risk of rejecting
a historic opportunity to live in peace with its neighbors.
After 61 years, it is time to live in peace, with independence and
sovereignty, he stated.
The PNA president is concluding in Venezuela a tour that also
included Brazil, Argentina and Chile to seek support for international
recognition of a Palestinian State.
