Trading complexes to offer goods cheap

The Government will open three large scale "Trading Complexes" including Retail Trading Complex, Textile and Garment Trading Complex and Plastic Items Trading Complex which aim to offer myriad of consumer items to the public at concessionary rates on December 4.

Trade, Marketing Development, Co-operatives and Consumer Services Minister Bandula Gunawardena told the Daily News that the Government on a special request by President Mahinda Rajapaksa has set up three trading complexes to provide maximum relief to consumers targeting the upcoming festive season.

The trading complexes comprises 100 trade stalls and has been constructed using modern technology by the Central Engineering Consultancy Bureau (CECB) to facilitate both, traders and consumers. Theses complexes will foster competition in the market place and prevent artificial jacking up of prices, Gunawardena said.

The new complexes will be kept open from 3.00 pm. to 11 pm. on week days and from 2.00pm to 11 pm during weekends and are expected to cater to more than 10,000 consumers daily.
