Impact of global warming felt by entire world - PM
Whatever decisions were made or whatever agreements were reached at
any forum it would be fruitless if they were not implemented, Prime
Minister Ratnasiri Wickramanayaka said at the 2009 Commonwealth Summit
held at Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago.
Prime Minister Wickramanayaka was warmly welcomed by the Prime
Minister of Trinidad and Tobago Patrick Manning on his arrival at Port
of Spain to attend the conference.
Queen Elizabeth II of Britain who is 83 years old and Prince Phillip
who is 88 years old are also attending the summit with leaders of 51
Commonwealth countries participating. Prime Minister Wickramanayaka is
representing President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Prime Minister Wickramanayaka said much change in the atmosphere was
taking place and the impact of global warming was felt by the entire
world but it was surprising that the agreements reached to reduce global
warming were not implemented.
The Prime Minister held bilateral talks with a number of Commonwealth
leaders including Australia’s Prime Minister Kevin Rudd and Trinidad and
Tobago Premier Patrick Manning. It was decided at the summit that
agreement reached at it should be implemented by the member countries. |
