eASIA 2009 :

Sri Lanka showcases ICT potential

eASIA 2009, the premier ICT event will be a tremendous opportunity to showcase Sri Lanka's ICT potential, which has been developed as a regional knowledge centre in Asia with the dawn of peace, Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA) Chief Operating Officer, Reshan Dewapura said.

He was speaking at a news conference at the Taj Samudra Hotel on Wednesday to outline plans on the three-day conference cum exhibition, to be held from December 2 - 4 at the BMICH.

Dewapura said President Mahinda Rajapaksa has declared 2009, as the year of ICT and English, Sri Lanka will get the unique opportunity to host the eASIA 2009. In the series of annual events, this is the first time Sri Lanka was selected to hold this event. The theme of the event "Opportunities for Digital Asia" will provide a platform to share ICT knowledge particularly among the regional countries.

Representatives from around 45 countries including the USA and Europe will attend the event. About 100 corporates, over 1,000 international delegates and 800 local visitors are expected to participate in the conference. Around 30,000 participants are expected to visit the exhibition, he said.
