Writers organization formed

A Sri Lankan Writers Organization was inaugurated at a ceremony at the Public Administration and Home Affairs Ministry Auditorium recently.

The objective of this is producing literary creations with a Sri Lankan identity. Minister Dr. Sarath Amunugama will function as the President of this organization which will receive the full support of the Ministers of Public Administration and Home Affairs, Education and Cultural Affairs said the Government Information Department in a press release.

A wide cross section of Sinhala, English and Tamil writers attended the inaugural meeting of the organization, the release added. Home Affairs Minister Chandrasiri Gajadheera addressing the participants said that creations of writers were more powerful than weapons because they directly addressed peoples minds.

It would be more significant and pertinent for writers to present joint rather than individual creations.
