President cautions Trade Unions:
Be wary of conspirators
Though the working class had demands and the
Government was prepared to grant their just demands there were
certain conspiratorial objectives that could be put forward through
trade union demands President Mahinda Rajapaksa who met officials of
nearly 80 trade unions at Temple Trees yesterday cautioned.

Russia assures support for Lanka
Sri Lanka was capable to face any international
pressure on alleged war crimes or any other problems as it had a
proper judicial system and the Russian government had always
supported the Sri Lankan government to protect its national
integrity. We supported Sri Lanka to fight against terrorism and to
bring peace, visiting Russian Foreign Minister Sergei V. Lavrov said
at a press conference held at the Foreign Ministry yesterday.

Migrant worker rights:
UN lauds Government
The UN Committee on Migrant Workers at their
recently concluded sessions in Geneva endorsed changes such as
setting up of a separate Ministry for the subject, adoption of a
National Labour Migration Policy and the amendments to the Sri Lanka
Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) Act, as steps in the right
direction.

US State Department report on Sri Lanka:
President to appoint committee to study
President Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to
appoint an expert committee within one week to verify the facts
behind the allegations against the Sri Lanka Government in the
report submitted by the US State Department to the US Congress on
incidents during the recent conflict in Sri Lanka, Human Rights and
Disaster Management Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe said.
