Report on Muslim Education
Education Minister Susil Premajayantha received the report on Muslim
Education conducted after 60 years. He said it would be presented to the
National Education Commission for making policy decisions.
The Minister made this revelation at a ceremony held yesterday at the
Education Ministry auditorium where he received the committee report on
Muslim Education.
Minister Premajayantha said that this committee report was made
possible following recommendation by the President to the Ministry of
Education to submit a report on the matter and added that he was able to
improve the educational and resource level of the Muslim schools in the
recent past.
"When the LTTE chased away nearly 70,000 Muslims during 1992/93
period from the North, they came to Kalpitiya where the Muslim schools
became short of teachers for these students. Then, we provided 480
teachers as teacher assistants and made efforts to upgrade their
educational level there," the Minister said.
"None of the Muslim schools in the Southern Province had science or
maths streams. I solved this by appointing 10 science graduates," the
Minister said. |
