Students allowance to be doubled

The Education Ministry has taken steps to double the student allowance given for Colleges of Education students, Education Minister Susil Premajayanth said.

The Minister was addressing a gathering at the Education Ministry auditorium organized to offer teaching appointments for 199 Diploma holders of Colleges of Education. The Education Ministry has suggested the Treasury to look into the issue to increase the students' allowance.

"It has been reported the ratio among students and teachers in our country is 19 to while the ratio in America is 22 to 1. It indicates that our teachers can pay much attention for students. A few years ago the retirement rate per year is around 5,000. But now the rate has come down to 3,000 per year.
