Committee to probe power sets purchase
Transport Minister Dullas Alahapperuma directed the Transport
Ministry Secretary to appoint a special independent committee of
competent persons from outside the department to look into the purchases
of S-8 and S-9 power sets by the Railway Department, a Ministry press
release said yesterday.
A previous committee appointed to probe into the purchase of motor
traction armatures found that these equipment were not up to the
required standards and thereafter it was decided to return the equipment
to the supplier company that had agreed to supply ones up to the
required standards, the release said.
Minister Alahapperuma had said he would not allow a single cent of
public funds to be wasted or overspent, the release said.
The term of office of the members of the Homoeopathic Medical Council
had expired on October 20 Indigenous Medicine Minister Tissa
Karalliyadde had declared in a special Govt. Gazette Notification on
October 20, the ministry said in press release yesterday.
However homeopathic clinics countrywide and Homoeopathic Hospital,
Welisara will continue to function as usual, the release said. |
