Maximum security for war heroes - Minister

Chief Government Whip and Urban Development and Sacred Area Development Minister Dinesh Gunawardene told Parliament yesterday the Government will protect and provide maximum security to war heroes and others who made untold sacrifices to liberate the country from the clutches of terrorism.

"The Government will protect the former Army Commander and all war heroes who contributed towards the task of eradicating terrorism.

In addition, measures will be taken to provide maximum security to protect Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe as well, he said. The Minister made these remarks in response to a question raised by the JVP MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

MP Dissanayake asked why the Prime Minister has not yet responded to the statement made by him in Parliament on Tuesday requesting to provide security to Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the commanders of three Armed Forces.

Minister Gunawardene said the Prime Minister will provide an answer to this statement once he returns to the country.
