Mud slinging campaigns on websites:

Govt appoints committee

The Government has decided to appoint a committee to inquire into the mud slinging campaigns carried on by certain websites against the Government, Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardana said.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, the Minister said these websites have been engaged in tarnishing the image of the Government putting out bogus information aimed to put the Government into difficulties.

“Therefore the Government has taken steps to appoint a committee to look into this issue,” he said.

The committee will consist of Information Department officials “The committee will identify. these websites and names will be published in newspaper advertisements in the future. But the websites will not be banned,” he said.
