Exam to fill Grama Niladhari vacancies

Public Administration and Home Affairs Minister Sarath Amunugama said the Government has decided to conduct a competitive examination to fill 1710 Grama Niladhari positions that stand vacant at present.

The Minister said already 1167 Grama Niladhari vacancies out of 2,601 positions have been filled through the competitive examination held recently.

"We recruited them based on their marks at the examination", he said.

The balance 434 persons will be granted their appointments soon.

Applications will be called soon to fill the 1,710 Grama Niladhari positions that stand vacant now.

An organization will be formed to protect the Knuckles Range.

The membership of the organization is open for schoolchildren in the areas of Matale, Raththota, Theldeniya, Uda Dumbara and Waththegama.

Suspect released

Mohammed Ifthikas of Sri Vipulasena Mawatha, Colombo who was taken into custody by a police team attached to the Maradana police on suspicion that he was involved in LTTE movement was produced before the Maligakanda Magistrate’s Court and released. SM


PC killed in crash

A police constable was killed on the spot at Mahena road, Horana when a bowser and a motorcycle collided on Monday evening.

Police spokesman Senior DIG Nimal Mediwake said a PC attached to the Wellawatte police died when a bowser collided head on. The victim Jayasiri Nissanka (45), is a resident of Horana.


Encephalitis - claims man

A 33-year-old man died of Encephalitis at the Nagoda General hospital, Kalutara on October 19.

The victim was Nalin Sampath of Malwatta, Uggalboda, Kalutara.


Sri Lanka week in Melbourne

A series of promotional events are being organized by the Sri Lanka High Commission in Canberra in collaboration with the Hony Consul for Sri Lanka in Victoria Bandu Dissanayake and the Sri Lankan expatriate’s community at Dockland Events in Melbourne.

The Sri Lanka Week will be held at “Water Front City-Docklands” from October 30 to November 1, 2009.


Buddhist talk

Bogoda Premaratne will deliver a public Buddhist talk in English on “Less known benefits of Breath Meditation” at a meeting of the Servants of the Buddha Society on Saturday, October 24 at 4.30 p.m. at the Maitri Hall, Lauries Road, Bambalapitiya.
