World Brand Congress 2010:
SLIM 2009 winners
The SLIM Brand Excellence Awards is all set to recognize and reward
brands and brand custodians on October 29 at a ceremony at Waters Edge.
This event is held annually and is the flagship event of SLIM (Sri Lanka
Institute of Marketing).
Successful local and international brands currently marketed in Sri
Lanka vie for the awards, along with Sri Lankan brands marketed
internationally.
The main awards of the event are the Product Brand of the Year and
Service Brand of the Year. The winners of these two categories will be
evaluated by judges for the much coveted accolade of Brand of the Year.
The other awards categories are: Small Business Brand of the Year,
Innovative Brand of the Year, Turnaround Brand of the Year, Local Brand
of the Year, International Brand of the Year, Best New Entrant Brand and
CSR Brand of the Year.
“We should realize that custodians deploy much thinking and effort to
make their brands a success. Hence, this forum is dedicated to the
unsung heroes of brands; the brand managers and marketing managers,”
said SLIM Brand Excellence Awards, Project Chairman Gamika de Silva.
A stringent judging process ensures that the accolades are given to
brands that are trailblazers across the industry, and emphasis is placed
on the branding strategies that form the basis of a well conceived
marketing mix.
SLIM strives to push the standard of excellence higher each year.
Senior marketer Godwin Perera heads the judging panel of this year’s
awards.
“SLIM Brand excellence awards attempt to reward built-in branding,
and not bolt-on branding. The latter is best avoided because Bolt-on
branding is one, Built-in branding is another. The former is facade
management, and the latter, strategic brand management,” said advisor to
the Brand Excellence Committee, Dr Uditha Liyanage.
This year’s competition has captured the attention of many leading
brands, according to the Project Chairman of the awards, “We have had a
record number of entries this year and it was quite encouraging to see
several giants of leading industries keenly contesting in the
competition,” said Gamika de Silva.

technology. This is through a partnership with B. Braun Avitum, the
world’s hemodialysis specialist and a member company of German
healthcare multinational B. Braun Melsungen AG.
B. Braun Sri Lanka and Maldives, Deputy Chief Representative Yohan
Silva in a joint statement with B. Braun Business Development Executive
Royston Cumine, said, “Our aim is at all times to provide the best
quality and most affordable and reliable treatment to patients. We

what comes first should always be our patients’ well-being.
The field of dialysis is constantly shifting to new and better
treatments and we believe that through our partnership with PC Pharma we
can not only keep Sri Lankan treatment abreast of the latest European
standards and developments but also make the treatment process as simple
and hassle free as possible for the patients.”
Aiming for innovation, sustainability, and efficiency, B. Braun,
through its 170 years of operation in over 50 countries worldwide,
constantly strives to enhance the treatment available to its customers.
Through the provision of the latest technology in hemodialysis
treatment, B. Braun aims to minimize the trauma of the patient by
smoothing the treatment technology.
PCH Group Chairman S.H.M. Rishan said that this is the first time
that PC Pharma has signed up with a company for the provision of the
complete range of hemodialysis treatment. “In business ethical behaviour
is what sets a company apart from the competition. We have always
strived to maintain stringent standards within our companies and believe
that our partners too are of the highest quality. Through our
partnership with B. Braun, we plan to expand the treatments available to
not only the dialysis patients within Colombo, but also the patients
from the suburbs and rural areas. Unlike other industries, we deal with
lives.”
PC Pharma General Manager Dilshard Ikram, said, “Within Colombo and
the suburbs, the treatment is not only easier to obtain but knowledge on
options that are available is higher. Patients coming in from more rural
areas not only find it harder to obtain treatment, but also in certain
extreme instances even have no option but to give up on receiving
treatment and thereby give up on their lives.
Through this partnership the growth and dispersion of dialysis
treatment will be made available to rural areas as well as cities. |
