The estate’s Upper Division already has 32 houses that have been
completed erasing any signs of the Colonial line rooms that earlier
housed over a dozen families. 15 houses have been completed in the Lower
Venture Division and 40 more in the Lower Lawrance Division.
Each new house has two bed rooms, a bathroom, pantry, sitting and
dining area built on seven perches, 200 houses will be built in all four
divisions of the estate each costing approximately Rs. 650,000 on eight
hectares set aside for the purpose in the tea estate.
Ninety percent of the existing housing for the estate workers have
been re-roofed and equipped with new toilet facilities, water supply
schemes with focus on waste water management to minimize health hazards.
“Today’s estate community living in RPC plantations enjoys a far better
quality of life now than ever before, and that too is consistently being
improved to meet their expectations and fulfil their ambitions” said the
Estate Superintendent Thushara Pinidiya. |
