Rehabilitation support:
ADB Director General visits Sri Lanka
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) of the South Asia Regional
Department Director General Kunio Senga, visited Sri Lanka from October
13-15 for consultations on ADB support to Sri Lanka, especially for
rehabilitation and reconstruction of the North and the East.

During his visit Senga met Senior Advisor to the President Basil
Rajapaksa and Secretary to the Treasury Dr. P.B. Jayasundara as well as
representatives of a number of key development partners.
“With the end of the war, Sri Lanka now faces a huge task of
reconstruction and development of the North and the East; and the need
to resettle the IDPs as soon as possible.
In addition to providing support to facilitate the resettlement and
the restoration of livelihoods for the people of the North, ADB expects
to play an important role in infrastructure development in these areas,
‘ said Senga.
During his visit, Senga also attended the South Asia Regional forum
on development effectiveness named ‘Managing for Development Results (MfDR)’,
which was jointly organized by ADB and the Ministry of Plan
Implementation (MPI) Sri Lanka.
Participants from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, the Maldives and
Afghanistan shared their experiences in implementing results - based
budgeting at the forum.
New approaches to measuring development effectiveness were discussed
at the forum, which also saw presentations by resource speakers from
Malaysia, Philippines and Australia. |
