Beware of gold sale scams

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka said yesterday there are scams being perpetrated by unscrupulous persons who claim that they have been authorized to sell gold belonging to the Central Bank.

Various offers have allegedly been made by such persons to the public.

The authorities are investigating these scams and steps will be taken to trace, identify and take legal action to deal with the offenders, a press release said.

The Central Bank of Sri Lanka cautioned the public that they should not be duped by these unscrupulous claims, since the Central Bank is not selling any gold.

These claims to sell gold on behalf of the Central Bank are completely false.
