‘SMART Recharge Bonanza’

Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel
partnered the Postal Department to launch the SMART RELOAD
scheme via postmen on the World Post Day. The scheme enables
Mobitel SMART pre-paid users to recharge their account
balance at their doorstep via services that will be provided
through local postmen.

A car every month and laptops every week will be offered with SMART
over the next six months, in a campaign organized by Sri Lanka Telecom
Mobitel.
SMART Pre Paid customers who have registered their connections
in compliance with the Mobitel subscriber registration policy can
subscribe to the draw by dialing the short code #151# from their
handset.
Titled SMART Recharge Bonanza this consumer promotion will offer
Mobitel SMART customer with a total recharge of Rs.200, one chance to
win a Maruti Suzuki Alto Sportz car Monthly and Asus Laptops with 3.5G
Internet dongle Weekly between the period October 2009 to March 2010.
“This is the valuable haul of prizes offered locally in connection
with a recharge promotion,” Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel CEO Suren J.
Amarasekera, said.
He said “It is also the first time in the local telecommunication
industry that a motor car has been offered as the grand prize. This is a
fabulous opportunity for our valued SMART Pre Paid customers to enter
the exciting competition”.
Sri Lanka Telecom Mobitel is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sri Lanka
Telecom. In January 2004, the company launched its fully-fledged 2.5G
GSM network that is EDGE/GPRS enabled and designed to operate on dual
band.
In December 2007, the company launched its 3.5G HSPA network - the
first Super 3.5G network in South Asia.

The Maliban Biscuits Company in collaboration with the Central
Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayaka has launched a project to
distribute computers for schools in rural areas.
Minister Ekanayaka said that 1,470 computers were distributed among
schools in the Central Province and it is expected to enhance computer
literacy to 70 percent by 2012.
The Central Province is the second computer literate province in the
country while the best teacher and the best performing student was
produced from the same province. When children received education in
computers they can earn an income at their home.
Computer literacy in the province was at three percent in 2001 but it
has increased to 34 percent today.
