Dharmapala in historic win

Dharmapala Vidyalaya made history as they beat the more fancied St. Peter's College by an innings and 17 runs in their under 19 inter school cricket encounter played at Pannipitya yesterday.

When going in to the second day's play yesterday Peterites had an uphill task to erase the deficit of 151 runs to fight back. But Dharmapalians had different ideas in their minds and they bundled out their opponents for 134 runs to register the first win for the season by an innings and 17 runs.

Hasitha Wickramasinghe was the pick of the bowlers as he captured 6 wickets for 38 runs to demolish the Peterite second innings to claim the victory for his team.

St. Peter's College 67 all out (Denham Perera 18, Hasitha Nirmal 4 for 17, Praneeth Ratnayake 4 for 22) and 134 all out (Lahiru Melantha 24, Roshane Perera 25, Hasitha Wickramasinghe 6 for 38, Hasitha Nirmal 2 for 45).

Dharmapala Vidyalaya 218 all out (Rasitha Gamage 72, Hasitha Nirmal 37, Hasitha Wickramasinghe 27, Tharindu Liyanage 23, Tharindu Gamlath 20, Angelo Emmanuel 5 for 55).

Thurstan takes honours

A superb century (123) by opener Udara Munasinghe helped Thurstan College to register a first innings win against S. Thomas College, Mount Lavinia in their annual fixture played at Thurstan park yesterday.

With the help of Udara's century Thurstan managed to score 276 in reply to Thomians first innings score of 163. Thomians managed to score 192 for the loss of 7 wickets for their second innings at the end of play.

S. Thomas 1st innings 163 all out (Ashen Fernando 62, Chamodh Pathirana 33, Shehan Kamileen 4 for 21, Sacith Dias 3 for 31, Sachintha Wijesinghe 2 for 52).

Thurstan 1st innings 276 all out (Udara Munasinghe 123,Jehan Jaweed 33, Proboda Arthawidu 25, Madushan Ravichandrakumar 3 for 51, Janith de Silva 2 for 30, Lalindra Peris 2 for 39).

St. Thomas 2nd innings 192 for 7 (Ashen Fernando 43, Lalindra Peris 54, Chamodh Pathirana 46, Praboda Arthavidu 4 for 24, Shehan Kamileen 2 for 29).

Lumbini- second victory

Lumbini Vidyalaya, routed Zahira College, Colombo by five wickets to register their 2nd victory for the season in their Inter school under 19 cricket tournament match played at BRC grounds yesterday.

Zahira College 100 and 109 (Mohomnd Nafeez 17, Sameer Ahamed 17 n.o, Maduka Liyana Pathirana 6 for 41, Vikum Sanjaya 2 for 23, Zaman Osman 2 for 18).

Lumbini Vidyalaya 129 and 81 for 5 (Raveeja Sandaruwan 20, Ashan Rusiru 20, Mohomed Irshad 4 for 24).

Ramith (72) excels for Royal

A sparkling knock of 72 by left hander Ramith Rambukwella was the highlight of the inter-school cricket match between Royal and Richmond which ended in a draw at Reid Avenue yesterday.

Rambukwella had three sixes and seven boundaries and supported by a well compiled 42 by Chalaka Bogoda helped Royal declare their second innings at 126 for one wicket setting Richmond a victory target of 216 in 50 overs and at close the visitors were 130 for 5 at close with Kusal Praboda unbeaten on 59 with nine boundaries.

Earlier Richmond replying to the Royal first innings score of 222 were all out for 134 just averting the follow on with the spin duo of Maneesha Thanthirigoda (4 for 38), Charuka Rajarathne (3 for 12) and paceman Lakshan Landawla (3 for 23) doing the damage.

Royal College 222 (Imal Liyanage 70, Waruna Disanayake 24, Nilan Abesekara 24, Danajaya De Silva 3 for 57, Charitha Priyadarshana 2 for 40) and 126 for 1 (Ramith Rambukwella 72, Chalaka Bogoda 42).

Richmond College 134 ( Irosh Samarasuriya 39, Danajaya de Silva 34, Manisha Thanthirigoda 4 for 38, Charuka Rajarathne 3 for 12, Lakshan Landawla 3 for 23 ) and 130 for 5 (Kusal Praboda 59 n.o, Pabasara Waduge 22, Charuka Rajarathne 2 for 32, Manisha Thanthirigoda 2 for 43).
