Govt can win any election any time- Media Minister

The Government is strong to go for a national election anytime now, said Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena addressing a press conference held at the Mass Media and Information Ministry auditorium yesterday.

During the recently concluded Southern Provincial Council election the UPFA was able to get a majority of over 500,000 votes, 200,000 more than what it received in 2004 when it contested in alliance with the JVP.

“The UPFA has received majorities totalling 2.5 million votes in all Provincial Council elections held so far. This indicates that the UPFA is capable of winning any national election at any moment,” the Minister added.
