Rotary to help fund A’pura Renal Care Centre
The Rotary Club of Colombo West has pledged to help fund the Renal
Care and Renal Research Centre in Anuradhapura.
This will be done with the participation of other Rotary clubs, local
and international service organizations, the business community and
concerned members of the public.
Once the required funds are raised, the centre will have wards,
dialysis units, operating theatres, out-patient clinics, radiology and
scanning units, pharmacy, laboratory, offering free treatment including
dialysis and kidney transplant surgery to around 200 in-house patients
from the North Central Province and neighbouring regions.
Currently there are over 2000 patients receiving treatment at the
makeshift clinics daily. Around 800 are critically ill and require
urgent treatment.
Many deaths have resulted from chronic kidney diseases and end stage
renal failure in the North Central Province, which has a population of
1.2 million, 20 % of patients are classified as “end-stage patients”,
most of who die due to lack of medical care.
The Rotary Club of Colombo West requests the public to assist them in
this urgent humanitarian project. They could send their donation in
favour of Rotary Club of Colombo West-National Kidney Foundation Project
