President directs to open Renal Care Hospital
The Renal Care Hospital and Research Centre built at Maligawatte
Colombo at a cost of Rs. 450 million will be opened before the end of
this month for the benefit of kidney patients throughout the country.
This follows a directive issued by President Mahinda Rajapaksa during
a discussion held on Monday, said Health Care and Nutrition Minister
Nimal Siripala de Silva.
Minister de Silva said the President who discussed issues relating to
the spread of kidney ailments told him that the Maligawatte hospital and
Research Centre should be opened forthwith for the benefit of innocent
kidney patients without giving into the demands of certain vested
interests in the medical profession.
It was revealed at the talks that the opening of this new facility
scheduled for January this year was postponed due to a conflict between
the GMOA and the university Professors. President Rajapaksa who
intervened to settle this matter ordered that the hospital be opened
without delay to help minimise the problems and sufferings of the kidney
patients.
