Domestic aide steals Magistrate’s jewellery

A woman aged 50 arrested on Monday for allegedly stealing Rs.320,000
worth of jewellery from a house of an Additional Magistrate in Aniwatte
in Kandy was released on personal bail of Rs. 100,000 by Chief
Magistrate Sumudu Premachandra.
Chief Magistrate Premachandra ordered the release pending trial on
October 26. after she pleaded guilty to the theft.
The suspect was a domestic worker employed by the Additional
Magistrate, police said.
OIC, Kandy Police, Ranjith Balasuriya said, the police recovered the
stolen jewellery items pawned at two private pawnbroker’s shops in Kandy
town.
The suspect had deposited the stolen jewellery with the pawnbrokers.
