Two illegal sand miners arrested

Naula police arrested two persons transporting illegally mined sand on the Naula-Elahera road with forged permits for sand mining. These two persons were members of a group of illegal sand miners who had duped the authorities with forged documents and had been engaged in the racket for some time, police said.

The forged documents carried rubber stamp impressions of the Geological and Mines Bureau and forged signatures of the officials and the group involved in the illegal mining and transport of sand had deceived the police officers on their way while bringing loads of sand to Colombo, they said.

Naula police were conducting further inquiries about the sand mining racket under the direction of Central Province Senior DIG Gamini Navaratna and SSP Kandy Tilak Abeysiriwardena.
