South and North Korean families meet
SKorea: Members of families separated by war (1950-53) met Sunday in
private meetings during the second day of a meeting recognized as
favorable for tension diminishment between Seoul and Pyongyang.
The meeting was held in Mount Kumgang, in the territory of the
Democratic Popular Republic of Korea (DPRK). Nearly 100 citizens of
South Korea participated, according to information received here.
The meeting will have a second session starting today, when 99 family
members from the North will meet 449 family members from the South.
These contacts assumed a regular character after an inter-Korean
summit in June 2000. Last meetings took place in October 2007 and then
were suspended due to the government hostile policy of President Lee
Myung Bak, according to what Pyongyang denounced in that moment.
DPRK and South Korea agreed to resume them shortly after North Korean
leader Kim Jong IL, received president of Hyundai Group, Jeong-Eun. That
group is one of the active parts in a joint industrial park in Kaesong
locality, in the north territory.
