Capital market needs more professionals

More professionals will be needed in the capital market as many investors enter the stock market during the peak time of the CSE. More investment advisors are needed as the market has shown a positive growth, Colombo Stock Brokers’ Association, Chairman, Sriyan Gurusinghe told Daily News Business.

Stock Exchange in Jaffna soon

The SEC is planning to set up a branch of the Stock Exchange in Jaffna soon. SEC Director General, Channa de Silva said looking at the possibilities in the market they are keen to start a branch of the Stock Exchange in Jaffna while advising stockbrokers to encourage more investors to enter the stock market from all parts of Sri Lanka.
With the dawn of peace more youth and women participation in the stock market is essential.
The CSE has introduced internet trading to make trading easy which will directly help to improve the market, he said. He said the current benefits of the market will be shared across the country and the stock market activities will expand further.
Within the next few months there will be more investors from the North and the Eastern provinces.

At present there are over 200 licensed investment advisors in the CSE and to continue the upward momentum of the market, we will definitely need more investment advisors, he said.

“We would need new education programs continuously to uplift the quality and the standards of these market professionals.

The standards of market professionals are improving daily and with more investors entering the market we need qualified manpower to cater to the demand, he said.

Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka (SEC), Financial Services Academy (FSA), Director Dr. Dissa Bandara said. “We have five professional programs to support the capital market under the FSA.

We commenced the FSA last year with the objectives of attracting more educated professionals and to attract educated and trained professionals to the capital market.”

The SEC is keen on introducing several capital market products in 2010 and therefore, professionals should be acquainted with the latest instruments.

Under the FSA we have developed well-organized educational material for students and as the highest authority to provide a professional education we assure the recognition of all five programs, he said.
