President tells at Ranbima land distribution ceremony:

I won’t mortgage Motherland

President Mahinda Rajapaksa promised the nation that he will not allow anyone to mortgage the Motherland or auction it under any circumstances.Addressing the gathering at the handing over of land deeds ceremony Ranbima at Temple Trees yesterday, President Rajapaksa said promises given under the Mahinda Chintana were being achieved one by one uninterrupted.

Sri Lanka seeks higher Haj quota

Petroleum Resources Minister A.H.M. Fowzie arrived in Jeddah yesterday to seek an increased Haj quota from the Saudi government for the forthcoming pilgrimage season. Fowzie told the Daily News that he came on a special mission to meet Haj Minister Dr. Fouad Al-Farsy, to seek a quota of 6,000 pilgrims from the island.

New beginning in Lanka, says Indian Minister

There is a new beginning in Sri Lanka, said Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna.Addressing the UN General Assembly on Saturday, Krishna said India has asked the world community to urgently help bring to justice the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks, saying it is their collective responsibility and duty to fight the “malignant menace” of terrorism.
