Royal and Isipathana under 14 joint champions

Royal College and Isipathana College emerged joint champions in the under 14 all island schools 10A-side rugby tournament played at the CR & FC on September 26 and 27.

There was no scoring by both teams during the full time of play and the officials decided to continue play for extra time of three minutes each in this nerve tingling match between these two strong teams and declared Royal and Isipathana joint champs after the final whistle.

Both Royal and Isipathana lads played their hearts out and played admirably in every department and the parents of both teams as well as the spectators really enjoyed this match.

In the Plate Tournament D.S. Senanayaka College beat Mahanama College 14 points to nil, in the Bowl Vidyartha College Kandy beat Maliyadeva College Kurunegala by 28 points to 7, while the Shield was won by Dudley Senanayaka MV Colombo 5 who beat Lumbini College by a big margin of 40 points to nil.

More than 420 participants from 28 schools from the Island took part in this grand finale, which was organized by the Sri Lanka Schools Rugby Football Association (SLSRFA) and sponsored by Nestle Lanka Ltd.

The chief guest was Bandula Egodage (External Affairs and Activations Manager Nestle Lanka Ltd.), while the guest of honour was Lasitha Gunaratne (CEO - SLRFU). Dr. K.A.D. Punyadasa (Principal of Isipathana and President SLSRFA) and S.S. Kumaranayake (Tournament Secretary/ Vice President Western Province RFA) graced the occasion.

The final was officiated by A.C. Tennakoon.
